Hi Cousin Paul Received your E-mail on your part of the “Andrée” family. I cannot help you in the research on Andree family part that came to the US, possibly thru Canada, but can possibly give you some additional background on the history of the Family. My part of the Family also comes from Germany, in fact I left Germany in 1954 to come to this country. The Family is of French Huguenot background and is said to have survived the slaughter of the Huguenots on 24 August 1572, but then left France after cancellation of the edict of Nantes in 1685. The Andrée Family supposedly were Farmers from the area around Paris. They received asylum by the protestant Principality of Wied, were they for 6 generations, were employed by the princes, as foresters (Oberförster) and lived in the small town of Dierdorf (close to Neuwied). Actually my Grandfather was the first of them to break with the tradition of being a Forester, as he became a printer and later a Newspaper Publisher. If one could get access to the Archives of the Principality of Wied, one could most likely get the history right from to the date of their arrival in Germany. It should be noted that some Andrée’s during their years in Germany have occasionally changed the written form of their name, such as leaving out one “e” or even germanizing the name to Andreae or Andres. I hope this is of interest to you and should you get further information that might show a connection to my part of the Family, I would certainly appreciate hearing from you. Sincerely, Harry R.
