The Daily News, McKeesport, PA - Monday Evening, August 7, 1905 Paul Andre is Dead - One of the oldest and best known residents of Boston died yesterday morning - He was a pioneer coal merchant Paul Andre, 75 years old, father of the late Mayor James Z Andre of this city, died yesterday morning at 11 o'clock at the family homestead in Boston from a complication of ailments incidental to advanced age. Mr Andre was one of the most widely known residents of the Youghiogheny Valley, having lived in Allegheny Co ever since coming to this country from Germany at the age of 18 years. For 40 years, he had been a resident of Boston, living at the old family homestead, one of the landmarks of Boston. Mr Andre had been a coal miner and operator all his life, and before the days of tow boats on the rivers, he was engaged in floating coal down the Ohio in flats. He was a well known figure among the earlier rivermen, few of whom survive him. For some years Mr Andre had owned a coal mine back of Boston and supplied persons living in the country with coal. For 36 years he had been a member of the Blucher Lodge of Odd Fellows, which organization will have charge of the funeral. Deceased was also a member of the A.O. Workmen for many years. He is survived by his widow and seven children: Mrs Annie Haney, at home; Mrs Sophia Moran, Indian Territory; Mrs Margaret Baranger, Greenock; Mrs Mary Diehl, Portvue; John D and David B, at home; and W Paul, Jr, who lives in Boston near the old homestead. The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at the family residence, conducted by the Rev J W Otterman, of the Boston M.E. Church. Interment will be in Mt Vernon Cemetery.
