Angels are fascinating creatures and it seems like you can find them posted all over the Internet. That in itself is not bad but I am a little apprehensive of the way some people have exalted them. They are beautiful heavenly beings and like us, they were created by God. If we become so in awe of them that we spend more time thinking about them than God, they become an idol in our lives. He cannot bless you if you put any other "god" before Him.
They are God's Angels. Psalm 103:20 says Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word. They listen for His words. They will respond to our words when we speak forth God's Word but we cannot command them to do anything. Think about it. How are you going to tell an angel what to do? You can't see him. How do you even know he is there or listening to you? How would you know if he did what you told him to do? We can ask God to send His angels to do something on our behalf but it's His decision whether or not He complies.
I also have a problem with all of the "baby" angel pictures there are. The Bible tells me angels have to fight. When I need angelic help I sure don't want a little baby angel. I hope God sends one to help me that is at least 7 feet tall. Don't you?
While I am at it, I don't mean to be insensitive but I don't believe when one of our children dies it's because God needed another angel. There is nothing in the Bible to support that. It is much more comforting to think that since 2Pet3:8 says a thousand of our years is like a day to God, our children will still be children waiting for us to get there. By the time they get a good look around, it will be time for us to join them. The time of waiting passes much more slowly for us than it does for them. What an incentive to make our salvation sure.
God showed me something else that is interesting about angels. If you want to know what it is, check out Run to the Battle.
